Fibonacci retracement calculator

Fibonacci levels are among the most-watched tools in technical analysis. This Fibonacci retracement calculator takes a swing high and low and gives you every key retracement level where a pullback may find support (or resistance in a downtrend), plus extension levels traders use as profit targets. Add the current price to see which levels it sits between.

How to use it

  1. Choose the trend direction.
  2. Enter the swing high and swing low of the move.
  3. Optionally enter the current price to see where it sits.

Formulas

Uptrend retracement = High − (High − Low) × ratio · Extension = Low + (High − Low) × ratio

Downtrend retracement = Low + (High − Low) × ratio · Extension = High − (High − Low) × ratio

Example

A stock rallies from ₹1,420 to ₹1,640 — a ₹220 move. The 38.2% retracement is 1,640 − 220 × 0.382 = ₹1,555.96, the 50% level is ₹1,530 and the 61.8% level is₹1,504.04. If the pullback holds above about ₹1,504 and the rally resumes, the 161.8% extension at₹1,775.96 is a common target. Check daily levels with thepivot point calculator.

Frequently asked questions

What is Fibonacci retracement?
After a strong move, prices often pull back part of the way before continuing. Fibonacci retracement levels — 23.6%, 38.2%, 50%, 61.8% and 78.6% of the move — mark where such pullbacks commonly pause. They come from ratios in the Fibonacci sequence (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13…).
Which Fibonacci level is most important?
Many traders watch 61.8% (the “golden ratio”) and 50% most closely, with 38.2% for shallow pullbacks in strong trends. 50% isn’t a true Fibonacci ratio but is widely used.
What are Fibonacci extensions?
Extensions project how far the next move might go beyond the swing — 127.2%, 161.8% and 261.8% are common profit targets.
How do I pick the swing high and low?
Use a clear, recent swing: for an uptrend, the lowest low before the rally and the highest high at its end. Different swings give different levels, so stick to obvious turning points on the timeframe you trade.
