About Guess the Stock Chart
Guess the Stock Chart is a daily puzzle for anyone who follows the Indian stock market — or wants to start. Each day you see the price chart of a well-known NSE-listed company over a three-year period, with no name and no numbers. Can you spot the crash, the rally or the slow and steady climb, and work out which company it is? It's like Wordle, but for investors.
How to play
- Study the chart. The dot on the right is the end of the period.
- Type a company name and pick it from the list. You have 6 guesses.
- After each wrong guess, a new hint unlocks: sector → period → return → price range → first letter. A 🟨 means your guess was in the right sector.
- Not sure? Tap Skip to use a turn and reveal the next hint.
- Share your result on WhatsApp and come back tomorrow to keep your streak going.
How the charts are made
Each puzzle uses monthly closing prices adjusted for stock splits and bonus issues, so the shape shows the real journey an investor would have experienced. The first month is set to 100; once the game ends, the axis shows the percentage change from that starting point.
Index value = (Price this month ÷ Price in first month) × 100
Example
If a stock was ₹400 at the start and ₹1,000 at the end, the chart starts at 100 and ends at 250 — a+150% return. A line that ends below 100 means the stock lost value over the period.
Tips for solving
- Look for big events: a sharp fall in early 2020 points to the COVID crash; a stock that kept falling while others rose may have had company-specific trouble.
- Think about the sector: IT stocks often move together, as do banks and metal companies.
- Use the return hint: multi-baggers (+300% or more) narrow the list quickly.
