    How fast are your reflexes?

Reaction time is how long it takes you to respond to something you see. This reaction time testmeasures it in milliseconds: wait for the box to turn green, then tap instantly. After five rounds you get your average and a rating compared with typical human results. It's quick, a little addictive, and a fun way to challenge friends โ€” or to see how alert you are before an exam or a long drive.

    How to play

    1. Tap the box to start. It turns red โ€” wait.
    2. After a random delay it turns green. Tap as fast as you can.
    3. Your time appears. Tap again for the next round. Tapping too early restarts the round.
    4. After 5 rounds you'll see your average and rating.

    How the score works

Reaction time = moment you tap โˆ’ moment the screen turned green

The waiting time is random between 1.5 and 5 seconds so you can't anticipate it. Your average is the mean of all5 valid rounds; early taps don't count.

    Example

    Rounds of 241, 263, 228, 290 and 252 ms give an average of (241 + 263 + 228 + 290 + 252) รท 5 =255 ms โ€” right around the human average.

    Frequently asked questions

What is a good reaction time?
Most people score between 200 and 300 milliseconds on a visual test like this one; the typical average is around 250โ€“275 ms. Under 200 ms is excellent, and anything below about 150 ms is extremely rare.
Why is my reaction time slower on a phone?
Touch screens, display refresh rates and the browser all add a few milliseconds of delay. Results are best compared on the same device. A desktop mouse or keyboard is usually slightly faster.
    What does โ€œToo soon!โ€ mean?
You tapped before the screen turned green. The waiting time is random (1.5 to 5 seconds) so you canโ€™t predict it โ€” wait for green, then tap as fast as you can.
Can I improve my reaction time?
A little. Good sleep, staying alert, warming up with a few rounds and regular practice in fast games or sports all help. Fatigue, caffeine crashes and distractions make it slower.
Is reaction time important for driving?
Yes, but real driving reaction time (seeing a hazard and pressing the brake) is usually 0.7โ€“1.5 seconds, much longer than a tap test, because it includes recognising the danger and moving your foot.
