Estimate a car's on-road price
The price in the advertisement is the ex-showroom price — what you actually pay is theon-road price, often 10–20% higher. This estimator adds the usual components: state road tax, registration and number-plate fees, first-year insurance, TCS for cars over ₹10 lakh, FASTag and any optional extras. Use it to check a dealer's quotation line by line and spot charges you can negotiate or skip.
How to use it
- Enter the ex-showroom price of the exact variant.
- Set your state's road tax percentage and the RTO fees from the dealer's quote.
- Add the insurance premium and any optional extras.
What you can negotiate
- Insurance: you may buy it from any insurer — compare quotes online.
- Accessories: dealer packs are optional and often cheaper outside.
- Handling charges: not a government levy; question them if they appear.
Example
A car with an ex-showroom price of ₹12 lakh in a state with 10% road tax: road tax ₹1,20,000, RTO fees ₹6,000, insurance ₹40,000, TCS ₹12,000 and FASTag ₹500 — an on-road price of about₹13.79 lakh. The ₹12,000 TCS can later be claimed back against your income tax. Financing it? Plug the total into the car loan EMI calculator.
