Cooking measurement converter

Recipes from blogs and YouTube mix cups, spoons, grams and ounces — and a cup of flour weighs very differently from a cup of sugar. This cooking converter turns cups to grams, grams to cups and spoons to grams for everyday Indian kitchen ingredients like atta, maida, besan, rava, rice, dal, ghee and sugar, plus baking staples like cocoa, butter and baking powder. The table shows the same amount in every common unit, and an oven chart converts °C, °F and gas marks.

How to use it

  1. Choose the ingredient.
  2. Enter the amount and its unit, then the unit you want.
  3. Read the result — or scan the table for every unit at once.

Example

A cake recipe asks for 250 g maida and 200 g sugar, but you only have cups. Maida weighs about 125 g per cup, so you need 2 cups; sugar is about 200 g per cup, so 1 cup. Scaling the recipe for more people? Use the recipe scaler, and convert other units with the unit converter.

Frequently asked questions

How many grams is 1 cup?
It depends on the ingredient, because a cup measures volume. A 240 ml cup holds about 240 g of water, 200 g of sugar, 120 g of atta, 92 g of besan and 190 g of uncooked rice. Choose the ingredient above to get the right number.
What size is a cup in Indian recipes?
Most modern Indian recipes and measuring-cup sets use a 240 ml cup (the US/standard cup). Some use a 250 ml metric cup, and older recipes may mean a katori, which is roughly 150 ml. The converter lets you pick.
How many teaspoons are in a tablespoon?
One tablespoon is 3 teaspoons (15 ml), and one cup is 16 tablespoons or 48 teaspoons.
Why are my results slightly different from a recipe site?
Flour and sugar weights vary with how tightly you pack the cup, humidity and brand. These figures assume the ingredient is spooned into the cup and levelled. For baking, weighing on a kitchen scale is the most reliable.
