A unit converter made for India
Most converters stop at metres and pounds. This unit converter also handles the units Indians use every day — gaj, bigha, guntha, cent, kanal and marla for land, tola andquintal for weight, and lakh and crore for big numbers. Pick a category, type a value and choose your units; the result and a full table of every unit in that category update as you type.
How to use it
- Select a category such as Length, Weight or Area & land.
- Enter the value and choose the From and To units. Tap ⇄ to swap them.
- Use the popular conversions buttons for one-tap shortcuts, or scroll the table to see the value in every unit.
How conversion works
Every unit is defined by how many base units it equals (metres for length, kilograms for weight, square metres for area). To convert, the value is turned into the base unit and then into the target unit:
Result = Value × (From factor ÷ To factor)
Temperature is the exception, because the scales have different zero points: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32 and K = °C + 273.15.
Example
A 200 gaj plot is 200 × 9 = 1,800 sq ft, or about 167.2 square metres. Similarly,5 ft 7 in is 67 inches × 2.54 = 170.18 cm.
