    Download YouTube thumbnails in HD

A video's thumbnail is often the best image of the whole video — perfect for reference, a presentation, a mood board, or studying what makes thumbnails clickable. This YouTube thumbnail downloader shows every size YouTube generates for a video, from full HD (1280×720) down to the small 120×90 preview, and lets you save each one with a single tap. It works for regular videos, Shorts and live streams.

    How to use it

    1. In YouTube, tap Share → Copy link on any video.
    2. Paste the link into the box above and tap Get thumbnails.
    3. Tap Download under the size you want, or Open to view the full image.

    How it works

Every YouTube video has an 11-character ID, and YouTube stores its thumbnails at predictable addresses:

    https://i.ytimg.com/vi/VIDEO_ID/maxresdefault.jpg

The tool reads the ID from your link and loads each size directly from YouTube. Nothing is uploaded to or stored on our servers.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I download a YouTube thumbnail?
Copy the video link from the YouTube app or browser (Share → Copy link), paste it into the box above and tap Download under the size you want. On a phone the image goes to your Downloads folder; you can also long-press the preview to save it.
Why is the HD (1280×720) thumbnail missing for some videos?
YouTube only creates the full-HD “maxres” thumbnail when the creator uploads a high-resolution custom thumbnail or the video itself is HD. If it doesn’t exist, use the Standard or High quality size instead.
Does it work for YouTube Shorts and live streams?
Yes. Links in the youtube.com/shorts/…, youtube.com/live/…, youtu.be/… and normal watch?v=… formats all work. You can also paste just the 11-character video ID.
Can I use a downloaded thumbnail in my own video?
Thumbnails are created by and belong to the video’s creator. Downloading for personal reference, research or inspiration is generally fine, but reusing someone else’s thumbnail in your own content needs their permission.
Is this tool free and safe?
Yes. The images are loaded directly from YouTube’s own image servers in your browser. We don’t store the links you paste or the images you download.
