Tune any string instrument with your phone
No clip-on tuner? No problem. This online tuner listens through your phone's or laptop's microphone and tells you exactly which note you're playing and how many cents sharp or flat it is. It recognises the string you plucked automatically for standard and drop-D guitar, ukulele, bass and violin, and you can tap any string to hear its reference tone. Musicians who tune to 432 Hz or 442 Hz can change the reference pitch.
How to use it
- Choose your instrument and tap Start tuner (allow the microphone).
- Pluck one string. The matching string lights up.
- Turn the tuning peg until the needle is centred and turns green.
Standard tunings
| Instrument | Strings (low → high) |
|---|---|
| Guitar | E2 A2 D3 G3 B3 E4 |

Example
You pluck the fifth string of your guitar and the tuner shows A, −18 cents with the needle left of centre: the string is slightly flat. Tighten the peg a little and pluck again until it reads A ✓within ±5 cents. Tune all six strings, then check the first one again — tension changes as you go. Want to play along? Try the virtual piano.
