Carrom, the way we play at home

Carrom has been a favourite in Indian homes for generations — long summer afternoons, the click of the striker and arguments over the queen. This online carrom game recreates the board with realistic physics: coins slide and slow down, bounce off the cushions and drop into the pockets. Play against the computer on Easy, Medium or Hard, or put the phone flat on the table for a two-player game.

How to play

  1. Move the striker along your baseline with the slider.
  2. Press on the striker and drag back to aim — the further you pull, the harder the shot.
  3. Pocket all nine of your coins (and make sure the queen is covered) before your opponent.

Tips

  • Aim at the ghost spot: hit the coin on the side opposite the pocket you want, so it rolls straight in.
  • Gentle shots are more accurate — full power is for breaking the cluster.
  • Cover the queen quickly: plan a coin you can pocket next before going for the red.
  • Avoid pocketing the striker on straight shots towards a corner — it costs you a coin.

Example

Your white coin sits a little in front of the top-left pocket. Slide the striker towards the left end of the baseline, pull back gently along the dotted line so it touches the coin's lower-right side, and the coin drops in — you shoot again. Next, pocket the queen and immediately cover it with another white coin to earn it. Fancy a quieter game? Try chess or tic-tac-toe.

Frequently asked questions

How do I shoot in this carrom game?
Slide the striker along your baseline with the slider (or drag it sideways). Then press on the striker and pull back, like a catapult — the dotted line shows where it will go and the bar shows the power. Let go to shoot.
What are the rules?
You play White (bottom), the opponent plays Black. Pocket one of your own coins and you shoot again. Pocketing the striker is a foul: you lose your turn and one of your pocketed coins goes back to the centre. The first player to pocket all nine coins — after the queen has been covered — wins.
How do I cover the queen?
After pocketing the red queen, you must pocket one of your own coins in the same shot or your very next shot. If you don’t, the queen returns to the centre. You can’t pocket your last coin while the queen is still on the board.
Can two people play?
Yes — choose 2 players. Player 2 shoots from the top baseline, so place the phone flat on a table between you.
