Frequently asked questions

What is an IFSC code?
The Indian Financial System Code is an 11-character code that identifies a specific bank branch for NEFT, RTGS and IMPS transfers. The first four letters are the bank (for example SBIN for State Bank of India), the fifth is always 0, and the last six identify the branch.
Where can I find my branch’s IFSC?
It is printed on your cheque book and passbook, and shown in your bank’s app. You can also search here by bank, state, district and branch, or type an IFSC to check which branch it belongs to.
What is a MICR code?
MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) is a 9-digit code printed at the bottom of cheques. It identifies the bank and branch for cheque clearing. Many branches show it here alongside the IFSC.
Is this data up to date?
The branch list comes from an open dataset compiled from the Reserve Bank of India’s published IFSC lists and is refreshed regularly. Branches merge and close, so before sending a large amount, confirm the IFSC with the beneficiary or the bank.
