Add page numbers to a PDF

Project reports, theses, tender documents and court filings usually need numbered pages — and a merged PDF of scanned documents never has them. This tool stamps page numbers on every page in the position and style you choose: plain “1”, “Page 1”, “1 / 10” or “Page 1 of 10”. A live preview shows exactly how it will look, and everything runs in your browser so your document stays private.

How to number PDF pages

  1. Choose your PDF.
  2. Select the position, style, starting number and text size.
  3. Optional: skip the cover page.
  4. Check the preview, tap Add page numbers, and download.

Common conventions

DocumentUsual style
College project or thesisBottom centre, “1”, cover not numbered
Office reportBottom right, “Page 1 of 10”
Legal or tender bundleTop right or bottom centre, “1 / 10”

Example

A 24-page project report has a cover page. Choose Bottom centre, style 1, tickDon't number the first page and keep Start at 1: the introduction becomes page 1 and the last page shows 23. Building the report from several files? Merge them first, then number the combined PDF.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add page numbers to a PDF?
Choose the PDF, pick where the numbers go (bottom centre is most common) and a style such as “Page 1 of 10”, check the preview and tap Add page numbers. Download the numbered copy.
Can I skip the cover page?
Yes. Tick “Don’t number the first page”. Numbering then starts on page 2 with the number you choose — 1 by default, or 2 if you want the cover counted.
Can numbering start from a different number?
Yes. Set “Start at” to any number — useful when your PDF is a later part of a longer report or thesis.
Do numbers appear correctly on landscape or rotated pages?
Yes. The position is worked out for each page as it is displayed, so numbers sit upright in the right corner even on rotated pages.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Numbers are added by your browser on your device; the file never leaves it.
