ASCII art text generator
Make your words stand out in a terminal, a code comment, a README or a group chat. This ASCII art generator turns text into big block letters built from solid blocks, hash signs, stars or the letters themselves. It's a quick way to add a banner to a script, a startup message to a program, or a bold greeting to a Discord or WhatsApp message (inside a code block, so the columns stay aligned).
How to use it
- Type a short word or phrase.
- Choose the fill character.
- Copy the art and paste it into a monospaced place, such as a code block.
Example
“HELLO” in hash style is 5 rows tall and about 30 characters wide — perfect as a banner at the top of a Python script or a shell prompt. Longer phrases get wide quickly, so split them over several lines. For other fun text styles, tryglitch text and upside-down text.
Frequently asked questions
What is ASCII art?
Pictures and big lettering made from ordinary text characters. It dates back to early computers and printers, and is still used in code comments, terminal banners, README files and social posts.
Why does my ASCII art look jumbled when I paste it?
ASCII art needs a monospaced font, where every character has the same width. Paste it into a code block (``` in Discord, Slack and GitHub), a text editor like Notepad, or a terminal. Proportional fonts in normal chat bubbles can misalign the columns.
Which characters are supported?
Letters A–Z, digits 0–9, spaces and common punctuation (! ? . , - + : ' & # @) plus a heart (♥). Letters are shown in capitals.
Can I use it for WhatsApp?
Yes — wrap the art in triple backticks (```) in WhatsApp to make it monospaced. Keep it short (5–8 characters per line) so it fits a phone screen.
