Find and replace online

Changing a name throughout a document, fixing a repeated typo, reformatting dates or cleaning data copied from a website? This find and replace tool updates every match at once and shows how many it changed. Usematch case and whole word options for precise edits, or switch onregular expressions for powerful pattern-based replacements, with $1-style capture groups. Your text never leaves your browser.

How to use it

  1. Paste your text.
  2. Type what to find and what to replace it with; set the options.
  3. Copy the result, or apply it and run another replacement.

Example

Replacing “customer” with “client” in the sample changes 2 matches — both “customer” and “Customer” — because match case is off. Tick “Regex”, find (\d4)-(\d2)-(\d2) and replace with$3/$2/$1 to convert the dates to Indian format (07/10/2026). Change capitalisation with thecase converter, or compare before and after withtext compare.

Frequently asked questions

How do I replace a word everywhere in a text?
Paste the text, type the word to find and its replacement, and the result updates instantly with every match replaced. The counter shows how many replacements were made.
What does “Whole word” do?
It only matches complete words, so replacing “cat” won’t change “category” or “concatenate”.
How do I use regular expressions?
Tick “Regex” to search with a pattern. For example, find (\d+)-(\d+)-(\d+) and replace with $3/$2/$1 to turn 2026-10-07 into 07/10/2026. $1, $2… insert the captured groups and $& inserts the whole match.
Can I replace line breaks or tabs?
Yes, in regex mode: use \n for a line break and \t for a tab. For example, find \n and replace with “, ” to turn a list into one comma-separated line.
