Compare text online (diff checker)

Spot every change between two versions of a document, contract, essay, code snippet or list. This text compare tool (a “diff checker”) highlights deleted text in red and added text in green, either word by word inside sentences or line by line, and counts the changes. Options to ignore case and spacing hide differences that don't matter. Everything runs in your browser — your text stays private.

How to use it

  1. Paste the original text in the first box and the new version in the second.
  2. Choose word or line comparison and any options.
  3. Read the highlighted differences below.

Example

In the sample email, word mode shows “Monday” → “Tuesday” and “10” → “11”, the added word “chargers”, and the new sign-off — five quick changes that are easy to miss when reading two versions side by side. To change many words at once, use find and replace; to clean lists before comparing, tryremove duplicate lines.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compare two texts?
Paste the original text on the left (or top) and the changed text on the right (or bottom). Removed text is highlighted in red and added text in green. Choose word-level or line-level comparison.
What is the difference between word and line mode?
Word mode highlights exactly which words changed inside a sentence — best for documents and essays. Line mode marks whole lines as added or removed — best for lists, code and data files.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The comparison runs entirely in your browser, so it’s safe for contracts, code and private documents.
Can it ignore case or extra spaces?
Yes — tick “Ignore case” or “Ignore extra spaces” to hide differences that don’t matter, such as capitalisation or double spaces.
