Compress images without losing quality
Phone cameras produce photos of 3–8 MB, which are slow to send, fill up storage and are often rejected by upload forms. This image compressor shrinks JPG, PNG and WebP images — often by 70–90% — while keeping them looking sharp. You can compress by quality, or set a target size in KB and let the tool find the best quality that fits. Everything runs inside your browser, so your photos never leave your phone or computer.
How to use it
- Tap Choose photos (or drag them in). You can select several at once.
- Pick Quality (75% is a great default) or Target size and enter the KB limit.
- Choose the output format and an optional maximum width/height, then tap Compress images.
- Download each compressed image. The original files are not changed.
How image compression works
JPEG and WebP use lossy compression: they keep the brightness detail our eyes are sensitive to and simplify fine colour detail we don't notice. Lowering the quality setting throws away more of that detail. Shrinking the pixel dimensions also cuts size dramatically, because file size grows with the number of pixels.
Pixels = width × height · halving both dimensions leaves ¼ of the pixels
Example
A 4000 × 3000 phone photo of 4.2 MB, resized to 1920 px wide at 75% quality, typically comes out around 300–450 KB — about 90% smaller and still perfectly sharp on a phone or laptop screen. Set a target of 100 KB and it will be reduced further, ideal for WhatsApp DPs and online forms.
Tips
- For exam application photos with strict size and pixel rules, use the exam photo & signature resizer.
- Need exact pixel dimensions? Use the image resizer.
- Converting between formats only? Try the JPG / PNG / WebP converter.
