Convert CGPA to percentage
Many Indian boards and universities grade on a 10-point CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) scale, but job forms, scholarship portals and admissions often ask for a percentage. There's no single conversion: CBSE, VTU, Anna University and others each publish their own formula. ThisCGPA to percentage calculator uses the official formula for your board or university, shows the working, and compares the result across formulas so you can see why they differ.
How to use it
- Choose CGPA → Percentage (or the reverse).
- Select your board or university.
- Enter your CGPA (or percentage) — the answer and formula appear instantly.
CGPA to percentage formulas
| Board / university | Formula |
|---|---|
| CBSE (Class 10 / 12) | Percentage = CGPA × 9.5 |
| VTU (Karnataka) | Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 |
| Anna University | Percentage = CGPA × 10 |
| JNTU Hyderabad | Percentage = (CGPA − 0.5) × 10 |
| GTU (Gujarat) | Percentage = (CGPA − 0.5) × 10 |
| AKTU (Uttar Pradesh) | Percentage = CGPA × 10 |
| Other / 10-point scale (general) | Percentage ≈ CGPA × 10 |
Example
A CBSE Class 10 student with a CGPA of 8.6 has 8.6 × 9.5 = 81.7%. An engineering graduate from VTU with a CGPA of 8.0 has (8.0 − 0.75) × 10 = 72.5%, while the same 8.0 at Anna University equals 80%. That's why you should always use your own university's formula.
Good to know
- Some universities print the conversion formula on the back of the marksheet — that is the one to quote.
- If you studied under a semester system, use your final CGPA, not a single semester's SGPA.
