Grade calculator

Most colleges and many schools combine unit tests, assignments, practicals and exams with different weights. Thisgrade calculator turns your marks in each component into a weighted percentage, and then answers the question every student asks before exams: how much do I need in the final to reach my target? It also shows the best and worst overall result possible from here, so you know exactly where you stand.

How to use it

  1. Enter each component: marks scored, maximum marks and its weight in the final result.
  2. Enter your target and how much the final exam is worth.
  3. Read your current grade and the marks you need in the final.

Example

With the sample marks above — 18/25 and 21/25 in unit tests (10% each), 27/30 in assignments (20%) and 58/80 in the mid-term (20%) — your weighted grade over the 60% done so far is 80.2%. To finish at 85% with a final worth 40%, you need about 92.2% in the final exam. Converting a CGPA? Use theCGPA to percentage converter.

Frequently asked questions

What is a weighted grade?
An average where each component counts according to its weight. If unit tests are worth 20% and the final 80%, scoring 90% in tests and 70% in the final gives 0.2 × 90 + 0.8 × 70 = 74%, not the simple average of 80%.
How do I find the marks I need in the final exam?
Needed % = (target − current × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight. If you average 75% on 60% of the course and want 80% overall, you need (80 − 75 × 0.6) ÷ 0.4 = 87.5% in a final worth 40%.
What if the weights don’t add up to 100%?
That’s fine while the course is in progress — the calculator averages over the weight you’ve entered so far and shows how much weight is still to come.
Can I use this for CGPA?
Use credits as the weights and your grade points as marks out of 10 to get a weighted GPA. To convert CGPA to a percentage, use the CGPA to percentage converter.
