Type in Hindi online

No Hindi keyboard? No problem. This Hindi typing tool converts words typed in English letters — the way you already write Hinglish in WhatsApp — into proper Devanagari Hindi as you type. Write “namaste” and get नमस्ते, “bhaarat” and get भारत. It follows a simple, consistent phonetic scheme (based on ITRANS), handles half letters and conjuncts automatically, and works on phones and computers without installing anything.

How to use it

  1. Type in the top box using English letters, as the words sound.
  2. Use double vowels for long sounds and capitals for hard sounds (see the guide).
  3. Copy the Hindi text and paste it anywhere.

Example

Typing “aap kaise haiM?” gives आप कैसे हैं?, and “meraa naam priyaa hai” gives मेरा नाम प्रिया है. Note the double a in “naam” and at the end of “meraa” for the long ा sound, and “M” for the bindu in हैं. Turn your Hindi into a handwritten page with text to handwriting, or count its words with the word counter.

Frequently asked questions

How do I type in Hindi with an English keyboard?
Type the words as they sound, using English letters — “namaste” becomes नमस्ते — and the Hindi appears instantly below. Use double vowels for long sounds: “aa” for ा, “ee” for ी and “oo” for ू. Then copy the Hindi text into WhatsApp, Word or anywhere else.
How do I type ट, ड, ण and ष?
Use capital letters for the hard (retroflex) sounds: T = ट, Th = ठ, D = ड, Dh = ढ, N = ण and Sh = ष. Lower-case t, d, n and sh give त, द, न and श.
How do I type a half letter like in “प्यार”?
Just type consonants together without a vowel between them: “pyaar” → प्यार, “krishna” style clusters such as “kShatriya” → क्षत्रिय. A consonant followed by another consonant automatically gets a halant (्).
How do I keep an English word unchanged?
Put it in curly braces: “meraa {email} hai” → मेरा email है.
