Blur the background of a photo

Make your subject stand out with a soft, blurred background — the portrait mode look — even if your phone camera doesn't have it. Place the oval over a person, product, pet or plate of food, choose how strong the blur is and how soft the edge should be, and download the result at full resolution. Tick “Blur inside instead” toblur a face, number plate or address for privacy before sharing. Your photo never leaves your device.

How to use it

  1. Choose a photo.
  2. Drag the oval over the subject and resize it with the corner dot.
  3. Adjust blur strength and edge softness, then download.

Example

For a product photo of a handmade necklace on a cluttered table, place the oval around the necklace, set blur to about 20 and softness to 30 — the table disappears into a soft background and the necklace pops. To hide a vehicle number in a photo before posting, tick “Blur inside instead”. Then add your shop name with thewatermark tool, or fine-tune colours with photo filters.

Frequently asked questions

How does the background blur work?
You mark the subject with the oval, and everything outside it is blurred, with a soft feathered edge so the change looks natural — similar to the portrait mode on phone cameras.
Does it detect people automatically?
No. Automatic detection needs a large AI model, which would make the page slow to load on mobile data. Placing the oval yourself takes a few seconds and works for people, products, pets and food alike.
Can I blur only a small part instead?
Yes — tick “Blur inside instead” to blur just the area inside the oval, for example to hide a face, a number plate or an address.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The blur is applied in your browser and the photo stays on your device.
