SGPA and CGPA calculator

Indian universities following the Choice Based Credit System grade every course on a 10-point scale and weight it by its credits. This GPA calculator works out your SGPA for the current semester from your grades and credits, then combines it with your previous semesters to give your CGPA — so you know exactly where you stand before results are published, or what you need next semester to reach a target.

How to use it

  1. List this semester's courses with their credits and your grade (or expected grade).
  2. Add the SGPA and credits of each earlier semester.
  3. Read your SGPA and overall CGPA.

Example

With the sample courses — Mathematics 4 credits A+ (9), Physics 4 credits A (8), Programming 3 credits O (10), Lab 2 credits A+ (9) and English 2 credits B+ (7) — the total is 36 + 32 + 30 + 18 + 14 = 130 points over 15 credits, anSGPA of 8.67. With a first semester of 8.2 over 22 credits, the CGPA is 8.39. Convert it with the CGPA to percentage converter, and track attendance with theattendance calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How is SGPA calculated?
Multiply each course’s grade point by its credits, add them up, and divide by the total credits. For example, 4 credits × 9 + 3 credits × 8 = 60 over 7 credits gives an SGPA of 8.57.
What is the difference between SGPA and CGPA?
SGPA is the grade point average for one semester. CGPA is the credit-weighted average across all semesters completed so far — each semester’s SGPA weighted by its credits.
Which grade point scale is used?
The default is the UGC 10-point CBCS scale used by most Indian universities: O = 10, A+ = 9, A = 8, B+ = 7, B = 6, C = 5, P = 4 and F = 0. You can also type grade points directly if your university uses a different scale.
How do I convert CGPA to percentage?
It depends on your university’s formula — CBSE uses CGPA × 9.5, while many universities use (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 or other rules. Use the CGPA to percentage converter, which includes the common formulas.
