Morse code translator

Encode a message in Morse code or decode one you've found. This translator works both ways automatically: type ordinary text to get dots and dashes, or paste Morse code to get the text back. TapPlay to hear it as beeps at the speed you choose — a fun way for children and scouts to learn Morse, or to practise for amateur radio. A full chart of letters and numbers is included.

How to use it

  1. Type text, or paste Morse code using dots, dashes, spaces between letters and / between words.
  2. Read the translation and copy it.
  3. Tap Play to listen.

Example

“SOS help” becomes ... --- ... / .... . .-.. .--.. Paste .. -. -.. .. .- to decode it as “INDIA”. At 15 words per minute each dot lasts 80 milliseconds. For other secret-message fun, try thetext reverser, or make glitchy zalgo text.

Frequently asked questions

How does Morse code work?
Each letter and number is a pattern of short signals (dots, “dit”) and long signals (dashes, “dah”). A dash lasts three dots; letters are separated by a gap of three dots and words by seven. In written Morse, letters are separated by spaces and words by a slash (/).
What is SOS in Morse code?
... --- ... (three dots, three dashes, three dots). It’s sent as one continuous signal and is the best-known international distress call.
Can I hear the Morse code?
Yes — tap Play to hear it as beeps. Adjust the speed in words per minute (WPM); beginners usually learn at 5–15 WPM.
Is Morse code still used?
Amateur (ham) radio operators still use it, and it remains useful for emergency signalling with a torch, whistle or tapping, and in aviation radio beacons.
